Yellow House is the creative project of Cape Town based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Emile van Dango. He proclaims loyalty to nothing but the creative mind, which currently envisions expanses of dream-pop and psychedelic soul. ‘Control’ is the third release to emerge from his personalised artistic manifesto and yet the resulting content is something we can all connect to. As the South African musician explains, this song is “a reflection on our human desire to fight for control in every aspect of our lives. From our encounters with love and friendships, to our career choices and social interactions, we all share one common trait.” This collectivist attitude is brought together in the dreamy, funk-laced haze that comes from layering soft percussion, synth keys, relaxed bass and van Dango’s bold vocal. ‘Control’ is certainly his best track yet, with hopefully more to come. - HT
